William David Ledford, age 100, of the Fines Creek community passed away on
Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.
A native and lifelong
resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Augustus and Hattie Webb
Ledford. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 76 years, Genevieve
Rathbone Ledford, who died in 2005; an infant son, Erskin Blaine Ledford; a son,
Gus Ledford; a daughter, Christine Ledford Holland; and four sisters, Maybel
Ledford, Erous Mooney, Nola Shoemaker, and Pearl Rogers.
He was a member
of Pine Grove United Methodist Church and a self-employed farmer. William was an
avid outdoorsman who loved to go hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed searching
for ginseng with his wife, Genevieve. William will be remembered for his humble
spirit, devotion to his family, and dedicated work ethic.
He is survived
by two daughters, Louise Ledford Sutton and her husband, Robert, of Candler and
Anna Jean Ledford Henson and her husband, Sam, of Canton; a son, Joe Ledford and
his wife, Jessie Sharp Ledford, of Canton; a daughter-in-law, Faye Sharp Ledford
of Fines Creek; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services
will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Canton Chapel of
Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jimmy Moore and Reverend Billy Ferguson
officiating. Burial will follow at Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the
service.
