Dennis C. Ledford

Franklin - Dennis C. Ledford, 82, of Franklin, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012.

Born in Franklin, NC, he was the son of the late Zemery Ledford and Mamie Sanders Ledford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Jeanette Williamson, Ruth Cowart and Ann Patterson. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nannie Bell Angel Ledford; five children, Richard Ledford and wife Mary of Franklin, Tim Ledford and wife Colleen of Asheville; Rita Gregory and husband Mike of Franklin, Shelia Davis and husband Charles of Salisbury and Missy Buchanan and husband Larry of Franklin; two brothers, Gene Ledford and Bryant Ledford both of Franklin; five sisters, Mildred Anderson, Sue Cook and Audrey Brabson all of Franklin, Pat Lowe of Virginia Beach, VA and Evelyn Tallent of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren, Derik Shuler, Dalton Shuler, Ryan Ledford, Sydney Ledford, Matthew Buchanan and James Buchanan and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Reeves will officiate. Burial will be in the Addington Community Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post 7339 and the American Legion Post 108.

The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service.

VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108 will serve as Pallbearers.

Beulah Ledford Zirk

MARION Beulah Ledford Zirk, 91, of South Madison Street, Marion, passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012 at McDowell Hospital.

She was a native of Mitchell County, and the daughter of the late Walter and Myrtle McKinney Ledford.

She was a Homemaker and a member of Freedom Baptist Church in Dundalk, Md.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Zirk, and brothers, Jack, Lane, Bill, and Virgil Ledford.

Survivors include her sisters, Altha Reel, of Marion, and Betty Ledford, of Hope Mills, and one brother, Dean Ledford, of Baltimore, Md.

Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Henline Hughes Funeral Home with Jeff Duncan officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Entombment will be in Middle River, Md. at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of McDowell County 575 Airport Rd Marion, NC 28752.

Steven Anthony Ledford

Fairview - Steven "Spanky" Anthony Ledford, 60, died Monday, January 9, 2011.

A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late James Napolean and Charlotte Sayles Ledford and was preceded in death by a nephew, Robbie Ledford. Spanky had many friends and never met a stranger because of his outgoing personality. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved all kinds of sports especially softball which he played for many years. He was a member of a hunting club in Whiteville and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Leicester. He attended A.C. Reynolds High School and AB Tech. Spanky was a former employee of the Biltmore Estate and Kunkle Valve Company.

He is survived by a sister, Judy Morgan and her husband, Gill of Fairview; a brother, James E. Ledford and his wife, Wanda of Chesnee, SC. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, Kelly and his wife, Arial of Knoxville, Chad Ledford of Asheville, Kristi McLain of Clearwater, Florida, Jessy Ledford of Hendersonville, Anton Morgan and his wife, Ana of Faiview, Liliana and Analaura of Fairview.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday at Cane Creek Cemetery in Fairview with the Reverend Stanley Adcock officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at Victory Baptist Church, S. Orchard Road in East Flat Rock.

Jeffery Franklin Ledford Sr.

BELMONT - Jeffery Franklin Ledford Sr., 57, of Riverloop Road, passed away Dec. 28, 2011, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late W.D. And Thelma Mae Ferguson Ledford.

Mr. Ledford was a fixer for Pharr Yarns for 35 years.

He is survived by his son, Jeffery Ledford II and wife, Misty of Belmont; stepdaughter, Mary Elizabeth Baucom of Clover, SC; brother, William Ledford and wife, Lisa of Bessemer City; granddaughter, Karmen Jade Ledford; and nephew, Kenneth Ledford.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Ledford.

Dewitt Malcum Ledford

GASTONIA - Dewitt Malcum Ledford, 90, died Dec. 18, 2011.

Born in Murphy, he was the son of the late John Alvin Ledford and Delmar Arp Ledford.

Mr. Ledford was a machinist with R.H. Bouligny and Westinghouse.

He served our country in the US Army in the Aleutians, Philippines and the Southern Pacific during World War II. He was a recipient of the Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, 5 Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart.

Mr. Ledford was a charter member of United Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and assisted with Bible School.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jerry Garland Mull; brother, Alvin Ledford, Jr.; sisters, Mary Lou Walker, Flostine Davis and Willorae Ledford.

Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 64 years, Ruth Rogers Ledford; daughters and son-in-law, Karen Mull of Morganton and Linda and David Whisnant of Gastonia; grandchildren and spouses, Shelley Mull, Dr. Courtney Mull, Stuart and Katherine Mull, Cameron Mull, Karen and Jimmy Meek, Jennifer Graham, Brooke and Tobias Bem; great-grandchildren, Malcum Meek, Grant Meek, Harlie Graham and Gavin Graham; brothers and sister-in-law, K. Don Ledford of Gastonia, William Ledford of Kings Mountain and Johnny and Ann Ledford of Copperhill, TN; sisters and brother-in-law, Cuba-lee Layton of Atlanta, GA, Vaheda and Bill Pinkerton of Murphy and Vivian Campbell of Murphy; numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service beginning 1 p.m. Thursday in the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors of Gasto-nia. The Rev. Kelly Lowe will officiate.

Burial with military honors will follow in Gaston Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Edgar Lee Ledford

Edgar Lee Ledford, 85, of Fairview, died Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Fleshers Fairview Health and Retirement Center.

Edgar was a native of Yancey County and lived in Buncombe County for most of his life. He was a son of the late Walter C. and Dullie McMahan Ledford.

He was a United States Army Veteran, serving during WW II.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice Searcy Ledford; one daughter, Carolyn Lippard and her husband, Mike, of Fairview; one son, Kenneth Ledford and his wife, Tonya, of Fairview; one brother, Alvin Ledford of Oteen; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, December 1, 2011 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.

Interment will be held at noon on Friday, December 2, 2011 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.

Carroll Eugene "Gene" Ledford

Mr. Carroll Eugene "Gene" Ledford, 52, of Hildebran, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011 at Catawba Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, following a brief illness. Gene was born on May 24, 1959 in Haywood County to the late Ernest Coleman and Viola Mae Black.

He was a veteran of the U. S Army, serving as a Ranger and in the 101st Airborne Division.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harley Ledford and Ronnie Ledford and one sister, Joyce Ann Ledford.

Survivors include his two brothers, Terry Ledford of Connelly Springs and Dale Ledford of Hildebran and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 26, at 11 a.m. at Walker Road Baptist Church in Morganton with the Revs. Charles Lewis and Brandon Ware officiating. Interment will follow at Fines Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Waynesville. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Walker Road Baptist Church.
