NEWTON-Major Lee Ledford, 82 of Startown Road, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, at his residence.
Born Dec. 8, 1928, in Catawba County, he was the son, of the late Farris Rufus Ledford and Annie Bryte Hull Ledford.
Major loved God, his family and his church. He was a Army veteran and was a member of New Life Fellowship Church where he served as a head steward. Major had a passion for cars and worked 40 years at Century Furniture. He made over a dozen grandfather clocks in his personal time for his children and grand-children.
In addition to his wife, of 57 years, Faye Ledford of the home; two daughters, Nina Ledford Greene and husband, David of Newton and Pat Ledford Wilson and husband, Phillip of Newton; a son, Bob Ledford and wife, Prisca of Newton; a brother, Billy Vance Ledford and wife, Irene of Casar; six grand-children, Hanna Greene Edwards and husband, Brandon, Casey Ledford Mueller and husband, Wayne, Nicholas Wilson, Matthew Greene and wife, Hope, Erin Wilson, and Jordan Ledford, and three great-grand-children, Liam Mueller, Gabby Edwards and Samuel Greene survive him.
Two brothers, Homer Lee Ledford and Max Franklin Ledford preceded him in death.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Jenkins Funeral Home
Funeral Service: 1 p.m. Sunday at New Life Fellowship Church, 1941 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
Pallbearers include Dennis Hildebran, Mike Ledford, Bob Childers, Tim Moore, Danny Lingerfelt and Tim Lingerfelt. Honorary pallbearers include Roger Shortt and John Huffman
